In 2013 "Nfs Undercover" was announced as a pack-in title for Nintendo's Wii U console. In August 2014 it was confirmed that the game would be released alongside "Star Fox 64 3D" as a Wii U launch title. The game's release on the Wii U was pushed back from September 3 to September 17, 2014. In August 2014, E3 2014 gave confirmation that "Nfs Undercover" would be released for Wii U in Q4 of 2014. The release date for the Wii U version is unknown, but a Nintendo Direct held on July 31, 2015 confirms it would be delayed until Q1 2016. In a March 2013 interview with a United States-based gaming website IGN, NFS producer BrianUMoore gave an update on "Nfs Undercover". He stated that the team had been working on "Nfs Undercover" for over three years and that it had been in development since 2009. He went on to say that the game would be set in Tokyo, and moved away from the standard racing game style of "burn up the track" which was prevalent in other "Need for Speed" titles. He stated that they wanted to give players more open gameplay with an emphasis on exploration rather than the usual "follow the track" style. The game was set to allow players to drive any car in any location during free-roam, unlike previous games which restricted certain cars to specific tracks. Moore also said that drugs would play a role in this game, unlike GTA V. He also mentioned that NFS Undercover would include both co-operative and competitive multiplayer modes. A demo version of the game was available for a limited time before the main release date. It was released on September 17, 2014 on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and later for PC. The Need for Speed Undercover demo is included with the Need for Speed Rivals downloadable content pack "Velocity", which is also available as a stand-alone purchase. Need For Speed Undercover's online community has been closed on August 2015 due to going offline after NFSRivals updated server system.
